10/31/12 DEVASTATION, OBSERVATION, APPLICATION
Concerning Sandy
1- Devastation:
The size, the path, the timing of Sandy left record breaking statistics.
Loss of life, property, productivity will not only continue, but will compound as winter comes along and emergency support runs low.
2- Observation:
But remember, it was only a hurricane. It was large, it could have been larger, it could have been more powerful, it could have collided with more powerful systems, it could have happened at a worse time of the year.
IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE, MUCH WORSE.
The same is true for other weather related phenomena, as well as disease, pestilence, natural disasters (fires, famine, floods).
Secular man has tried to minimize the dangers of the natural world, the powers of the spiritual realm (both God and demons) and the wickedness of man against man.
3- Application:
We should know what the Bible says about coming catastrophes.
We should recognize man's vulnerability.
We should submit to God's authority (through faith in Christ).
We should prioritize and utilize our opportunities and resources for God and others.
The rest of the world openly follows their false gods, those who have the gospel should boldly follow the God of the Bible.
