He blesses us so that we will come to Him in repentance (Ro. 2:4), not because we seek more blessings, but because we are thankful and want to please Him.
If we don't turn to Him because of blessings, He will use burdens to bring us to repentance (2 Co. 7:10).
He usually warns us of impending sorrows, so that we will repent before we are afflicted. Many sorrows are averted by right choices.
However, if we will not repent because of blessings, or impending burdens, He will allow us to suffer, in order to bring us to Himself.
Not all sorrows can be avoided, but many of them can be, by choosing the right path.
Also, know...
Sorrow is not a sign of failure on our part.

Job was a perfect man, and he suffered much sorrow.
Jesus is known as the Man of Sorrows.
Sometimes sorrows come because of our service and faithfulness to God. When you find that faithful obedience leads you through the valley of sorrows, do not be discouraged, because He is with you, He will never leave you, nor forsake you. After you have suffered for a while, His joy comes in the morning.
1 Peter 5:6-10
(6) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
(7) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
(8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
(9) Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
(10) But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
