07/20/12 PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST

07/20/12 PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST

Isn't it interesting that people will give great effort, energy, time, concentration when studying, focusing on academics, music, sports, finances, entertainment, hobbies, puzzles, genealogies or any other subject, including prurient and morose materials? They will "strain the brain," even for long periods of time. Yet, a quick, comfortable, warm and cozy read or meditation is all that they give to a Bible reading or "study."

I am not talking about simply an academic study, I am talking about a spiritual searching, to which we give our best effort, energy, concentration, hunger, investigation, and it is not limited to a short, sporadic perusal. Then again, we pursue what we desire. This is why we have so many champions, giants, superstars in every field, yet few Christians are champions in the word of God or spiritual development.

Let me mention also, true leadership in Biblical accomplishment is evidenced by spiritual development, Christ likeness. If a person's studies does not produce holiness of heart and life, it is dead, fleshly, worldly, appealing to the carnal rather than revealing the spiritual.
