It is true that the family may see a person in his/her true character, BUT, remember, if the family member(s) are unsaved or carnal, they are not going to have a true understanding of the person, and may actually be prejudiced against a true Christ follower.
Persecution and misjudging is sometimes a family affair. Sinners, whether family, friend or foe, are not qualified to judge believers, or saints, holy ones, as the Bible calls them (1 Co. 2:14-15).
Jesus said that your enemies would be those of your own household (Mt. 10:35).
