06/05/12 FUNNY AND NOT SO FUNNY
1- The softer, more innocent, humor of Burns and Allen, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Red Skelton.
2- The self serving, crude and unkind humor of Red Foxx, The Marx Brothers, Lenny Bruce, Don Rickles, George Carlin.
Yes, there were times that the first group got out of hand and yes, the second group was sometimes funny. The main difference, for the most part, was the first group was funny without hurting other people but the second group was irreverent, callous, stinging, caustic and self promoting. It is alright to get people to laugh at you and with you, but not at the expense of someone else's feelings and dignity.
For Christians who tend to be comics, there is the added responsibility to be compassionate and self denying. Grace and wisdom make the difference.
