There is no more important job in the world than MOTHERHOOD. Yet, very few give it the commitment they should.
People will dedicate all of their energy, skill, time and desire to education, career, pleasure, sports, music, social status, but they think being a mother is just getting up everyday and doing motherly chores.
Motherhood is sacrificing everything, all the time, to raise children in the will and way of God. It takes physical, mental, social, spiritual effort. Good motherhood is no accident and not a second vocation.
There are mothers who must divide their time because of dire circumstances. Those mothers have no choice.

I think the world is so unimpressed with motherhood because most people never see it in action.

Think about how impressed we are when we see a world class musician, singer, athlete, artist during their one of a kind performance. It took their best to become the best.
Hardly ever is this kind of effort seen in motherhood. A mother who is just a smidgen above the rest of society seems to be a super mom. What would happen if a full out effort was given.
A super mom is not the one who balances a career (regardless of her circumstances) with homemaking and child rearing. A super mom is a Super Mom. Superstars are not just stars, they are superior to all others in their field. Don't worry moms, you won't have to compete for top status. There is definitely room at the top.
I think the Church is unimpressed with motherhood because it does not know, believe or obey God's plan, as revealed in the Bible.

The Church has traded God's word for man's word, God's approval for the world's approval. Those who seek to follow God totally are accused of being legalists and Pharisees. Don't let the average mom in the Church set your standard, it is probably waaaayyyy to low.
