03/06/12 PRECLUDE ANARCHY

03/06/12 PRECLUDE ANARCHY

My dad use to say, "It's not the years, it's the miles that are getting me down." hehehe. Anyway, both the years and the miles confirm the Biblical principle:
Respect for basic, proper authority (God, parents, husband) is essential to personal well being and interpersonal relationships.

To take this principle lightly is to violate a fundamental principle of life. The sooner it is learned and the more consistent it is followed, the more blessed a person will be.

NEW TESTAMENT PRINCIPLE
Honor God
Luke 4:8

(8) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Honor Husband
Ephesians 5:22-25

(22) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
(23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
(24) Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
(25) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

1 Peter 3:4-6
(4) But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
(5) For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
(6) Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Honor Parents
Ephesians 6:1-3

(1) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
(2) Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
(3) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

OLD TESTAMENT FOUNDATION
Honor Parents
Exodus 20:12

(12) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Deuteronomy 27:16
(16) Cursed be he that setteth light (dlg note... esteems lightly or contemptuously) by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Proverbs 20:20
(20) Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Honor God
Exodus 20:3-7

(3) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
(4) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
(5) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
(6) And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
(7) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

I did not address the issue of obeying people in authority in commerce or government, because submission to God, husband and parents is foundational, upon which all other legitimate authority is based.

Anarchy is a heart condition before it is a political stance.

I don't know if there is a more important concept for the Christian walk than the basics of loving, faithful submission to rightful rulers in our lives.
