11/30/12 EMBRACING THE SICKNESS

11/30/12 EMBRACING THE SICKNESS

Most of us would be disturbed, maybe even sickened, if we saw a "dog fight." We were indignant when we heard that Michael Vick fought dogs. We are amazed that people, after they get arrested, fined and jailed, return to the arena where they turn vicious dogs loose on each other. The dogs are maimed and killed, dying violent and excruciating deaths.

Yet, our children are thrown back into situations that are maiming and killing them every day, in the name of education, and parents get upset with those who decry the dangers of the public education system. Aren't children at least as important as fighting dogs?

And, remember this too; only a very small amount of the horror is reported. I have met people who say that they have never heard any such thing. Well, it is out there, but they are not sensitive to the reality. It is in the news, in the neighborhood, in the next of kin.

Also, most people are satisfied with a deteriorating situation, a corrupting influence, or they are intimidated by the roaring of the lion, therefore they stay home, and do not even think about a rescue mission.
